Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic and economic disruption in the United States have led to a sharp increase in unemployment rates, resulting in many individuals losing employer-sponsored dental insurance. It is estimated that over 16 million Americans may lose ESDI, with a significant portion expected to either enroll in Medicaid or become uninsured. Changes in dental insurance coverage are projected to lead to a decrease in routine checkup visits but an increase in tooth extraction procedures, with dental-related emergency department visits also expected to rise by 4%.
