Comparison of three tests for latent tuberculosis infection in high-risk people in the USA: an observational cohort study

Christine S. Ho et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the agreement between IFN-gamma release assays and tuberculin skin test in high-risk populations, and found that IFN-gamma release assays were more preferable for diagnosing latent tuberculosis, especially in non-US-born children under 5 years old and individuals aged 65 years and older.

Comparing the Diagnostic Performance of QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus to Other Tests of Latent Tuberculosis Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Chi Eun Oh et al.

Summary: The study compared QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) with QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) in terms of sensitivity and specificity in patients with active tuberculosis and healthy individuals at low risk of LTBI, showing no significant differences between the two tests. The agreement and reproducibility of QFT-Plus were similar to QFT-GIT, indicating the need for further research on its performance in immunocompromised patients and children.

Quantifying the rates of late reactivation tuberculosis: a systematic review

Katie D. Dale et al.

Summary: The study included 110 studies divided into four methodological groups, focusing on tuberculosis reactivation occurring more than 2 years after infection. Findings showed that in infected, untreated cohorts, tuberculosis rates declined to approximately 200 cases per 100,000 person-years by the fifth year after conversion, and dropped to less than 100 cases per 100,000 person-years beyond 10 years, with uncertainty due to age and reinfection risks.

Interferon-gamma release assay levels and risk of progression to active tuberculosis: a systematic review and dose-response meta-regression analysis

Jorge R. Ledesma et al.

Summary: The study aimed to quantify the relationship between interferon-gamma levels and the risk of progression to active tuberculosis. Results showed a sharp increase in risk between interferon-gamma levels 0 and 5 IU/ml, with a gradual increase up to 15 IU/ml where the risk levels off. The findings suggest that continuous evaluation of IGRA test results could help in identifying individuals at greatest risk of developing active TB.
