Guillain-Barre syndrome spectrum associated with COVID-19: an up-to-date systematic review of 73 cases

Samir Abu-Rumeileh et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed 73 cases of GBS associated with COVID-19 reported in publications until July 2020. Most patients developed GBS manifestations after COVID-19 infection, with a majority showing good prognosis, and a male predominance was observed.

Epidemiological and cohort study finds no association between COVID-19 and Guillain-Barre syndrome

Stephen Keddie et al.

Summary: This study did not find any causal relationship between COVID-19 and GBS, and the incidence of GBS decreased during the pandemic, potentially due to lockdown measures reducing transmission of pathogens that induce GBS.

A Comprehensive Systematic Review of CSF analysis that defines Neurological Manifestations of COVID-19

Medha Tandon et al.

Summary: Limited literature exists on Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) findings in COVID-19 patients with neurological symptoms. Analysis of 113 patients showed elevated CSF protein levels in fatal cases and higher CSF protein and cell counts in severe cases. Further studies on the pathophysiology of neurological complications in COVID-19 are recommended.

Is Guillain-Barre Syndrome Associated With COVID-19 Infection? A Systemic Review of the Evidence

Auwal Abdullahi et al.

Summary: This review investigated the association between GBS and COVID-19 infection. Fifty-one high-quality studies were included, with the majority of patients having confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and GBS diagnosis based on standard clinical, electrophysiological, and cerebrospinal fluid criteria. Testing for COVID-19 is recommended in patients presenting with GBS during the pandemic.

Guillain-Barre syndrome

Nortina Shahrizaila et al.

Summary: Guillain-Barre syndrome is the most common cause of acute flaccid paralysis worldwide and is associated with various microorganisms. While most patients recover well with immunotherapy, some may be left with disabilities or even die. International collaborative studies are currently conducting clinical trials to develop more effective treatments for this syndrome.

Summary: During the COVID-19 outbreak in northern Italy, there was a significant increase in GBS incidence, with COVID-19-associated GBS being predominantly demyelinating and more severe, leading to higher rates of ICU admission.

Modulation of Nogo receptor 1 expression orchestrates myelin-associated infiltration of glioblastoma

Jun-Hee Hong et al.

Summary: The study identified NgR1 as a key player in suppressing myelin-associated infiltration in glioblastoma cells, suggesting that reactivating NgR1 expression may improve the clinical outcome of glioblastoma patients by inhibiting aggressive infiltration.

Epidemiological and cohort study finds no association between COVID-19 and Guillain-Barre syndrome

Stephen Keddie et al.

Summary: Reports of Guillain-Barre syndrome during the COVID-19 pandemic did not show a causative association between COVID-19 and GBS. The incidence of GBS decreased during the pandemic, potentially due to lockdown measures reducing transmission of GBS-inducing pathogens. Intubation was more common in GBS cases with COVID-19, attributed to pulmonary involvement.
