Diagnostic performance of GeneXpert in tuberculosis-HIV co-infected patients at Asella Teaching and Referral Hospital, Southeastern Ethiopia: A cross sectional study

Summary: GeneXpert demonstrated a two-fold case detection rate compared to sputum smear microscopy and was able to detect an additional third of TB cases among smear AFB negative cases. Factors such as advanced disease stage, high viral load, and presence of anemia were significantly associated with TB. The WHO TB screening tool showed poor performance in detecting TB cases among PLHIV.

Incidence and predictors of tuberculosis among HIV patients after initiation of antiretroviral treatment in Ethiopia: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study aimed to assess the TB incidence rate and its predictors among HIV-infected individuals after the initiation of ART in Ethiopia. The results showed that the pooled TB incidence rate was lower than the WHO 2018 national estimate, and predictors included anemia, WHO stages III and IV, not on CPT, CD4<200cells/mu l, and being male.
