Dementia Enlightened?! A Systematic Literature Review of the Influence of Indoor Environmental Light on the Health of Older Persons with Dementia in Long-Term Care Facilities

Ingrid Goudriaan et al.

Summary: Indoor light conditions have a significant impact on the health of older adults with dementia living in long-term care facilities. While there is currently no conclusive evidence to support indoor light reducing challenging behaviors or improving circadian rhythms, some studies suggest that exposure to cool light of moderate intensity can help diminish agitation. Promising effects of indoor light include reducing depressive symptoms and facilitating spatial orientation.
