Robotics, Affective Displacement, and the Automation of Care

Casey R. Lynch et al.

Summary: Recent accounts of labor displacement in care work highlight the automation of tasks that were traditionally thought to require uniquely human skills, calling for a retheorization of displacement. The emerging robotic care industry illustrates the complex reconfigurations of more-than-human intimacy involved in displacement. Developing a micropolitical understanding of technological displacement is crucial for theorizations of care, automation, and displacement in geography.

Glitch epistemologies for computational cities

Agnieszka Leszczynski et al.

Summary: This intervention explores glitches as epistemological vectors to understand the significance of digitally-mediated spatialities that appear nonperformative in urban computational paradigms. By using examples of abandoned shared e-bikes, 'ugly' homes, and property dilapidation wrought through desire and aesthetics, it shows how glitch epistemologies disrupt normative spatial desires and open up possibilities for politics in computational cities.
