The value of pre-trip information on departure time and route choice in the morning commute under stochastic traffic conditions

Xiao Han et al.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of uncertainty on transportation systems and travel costs, as well as the welfare effects of providing travel information in different scenarios. The results show that providing accurate information can improve welfare under certain traffic conditions, but may reduce welfare in specific situations. Factors such as the correlation between traffic conditions, frequency and severity of bottleneck drops, and the relationship between free-flow travel time and bottleneck capacity significantly affect the welfare effects of providing pre-trip information.

Coordination Behavior in Mode Choice: Laboratory Study of Equilibrium Transformation and Selection

Xiao Han et al.

Summary: The study found that transparent descriptive information helped in achieving efficient equilibrium and stabilizing choice behavior, historical experiences influenced initial choices and equilibrium selection, a higher barrier between the two equilibria hindered and prolonged the transformation to efficient equilibrium, and a deeper attraction basin of the efficient equilibrium was more appealing in equilibrium selection.

Is providing inaccurate pre-trip information better than providing no information in the morning commute under stochastic bottleneck capacity?

Yun Yu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the welfare effects of inaccurate pre-trip information on commuters' departure time choice under stochastic bottleneck capacity. Three cases are studied: compliance, noncompliance, and co-existence. The benefits of inaccurate information depend on information quality, commuters' response and heterogeneity, and the frequency and severity of bottleneck capacity reductions.

China's millennial car travelers' mode shift responses under congestion pricing and reward policies: A case study in Beijing

Yuntao Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that sociodemographic characteristics, travel behavior and needs, residential location accessibility, attitudes towards travel and congestion pricing and reward policies all affect millennial car travelers' mode shift responses. Differences were observed in the impacts of contributing factors between migrant and resident millennial car travelers under congestion pricing and reward policies.

What factors are associated with travel liking on a recent commute? Evidence from commuters in Portland, Oregon

Ferdousy Runa et al.

Summary: The research found that the majority of travelers like their commutes, with cyclists and pedestrians rating their commute liking the highest, while drivers rated it the lowest. Travel time was negatively associated with commute liking, and some sociodemographic characteristics were not significant, but having an undergraduate degree, being in a low-income household, and being aged 65+ were more likely to like their commutes. Additionally, there was a strong and positive association between subjective assessment of travel usefulness and commute liking.

Switching threshold of commuting Travelers' route choice under different patterns of information

Xueqin Long et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the switching thresholds of travelers under different patterns of information through an experimental platform and Probit regression method. The results demonstrate that the switching threshold under real-time information is lower than that under historical information, and travelers have a slight tendency to pursue risk. The proposed method in this study effectively quantifies the degree of bounded rationality.

Travel time and bounded rationality in travellers' route choice behaviour: A computer route choice experiment

Humberto Gonzalez Ramirez et al.

Summary: Recent empirical studies have shown that travelers tend to evaluate relative rather than absolute differences in travel time, with 60.5% choosing the fastest route when it is at least 30% faster than alternatives. Only 10% of individuals consistently chose the fastest route, indicating bounded rationality.
