Release and fate of nanoparticulate TiO2 UV filters from sunscreen: Effects of particle coating and formulation type

Danielle L. Slomberg et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the release, fate, and transformation of two commercial nanocomposite TiO2 UV filters in aquatic environments. The results showed that hydrophobic TiO2 remained floating on water surfaces, while hydrophilic TiO2 settled at the bottom of the water column with dissolution in freshwater and seawater.

Study of the Ultraviolet Effect and Thermal Analysis on Polypropylene Nonwoven Geotextile

Clever Aparecido Valentin et al.

Summary: The use of polymeric materials such as geosynthetics in construction projects has been on the rise in recent decades due to cost-saving benefits, but concerns about the long-term durability have led researchers to study UV aging effects. This study examined the impact of UV exposure on a commercial polypropylene nonwoven geotextile through accelerated aging tests, revealing changes in material properties such as thermal stability and thickness.

Trimethylamine functionalized radiation-induced grafted polyamide 6 fibers for p-nitrophenol adsorption

Shihab Ezzuldin M. Saber et al.

Summary: The method of pre-irradiation grafting was used with an electron beam accelerator to graft PA6 fibers with GMA, followed by functionalization using TMA. Various analyses were conducted to determine the properties of the fibrous adsorbent, which was used for the adsorption of PNP from aqueous solution. The adsorption behavior was found to follow the pseudo-second order model, with the Redlich-Peterson isotherm model providing the best description of the equilibrium data.

Antibacterial activity and mechanism of the graphene oxide (rGO)- modified TiO2 catalyst against Enterobacter hormaechei

Xiao Zhou et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that rGO-modified TiO2 nanocomposite exhibited enhanced antibacterial activity against Enterobacter hormaechei under UV-Visible light due to the improved adsorption and the reduced recombination of photo-induced electron-hole pairs. The hybrid photocatalyst improved charge separation and chemical binding activity, contributing to the accelerated antibacterial process when compared with individual TiO2 or rGO alone.
