The impact of technological capability on MSME innovation: a case study of Vietnam

Mikyung Yun

Summary: This paper explores the dynamic interaction between investment in technological capabilities and specific innovation projects based on a decision model of innovation, using Vietnamese MSME data. The empirical results show that firm size, technological capability, and current R&D investment positively impact innovation, and government assistance for firms with low technological capabilities may be important but currently insufficient or ineffective. The findings suggest that government policies aimed at increasing firm size and providing technical extension services would be more beneficial than simply providing R&D subsidies to MSMEs.
