Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Pain in Veterans: Indirect Association Through Anxiety Sensitivity

Amanda M. Raines et al.

Summary: Despite the high comorbidity rates between pain and PTSD, little is known about the factors explaining this association. Previous research has shown that anxiety sensitivity (AS) is elevated in patients with these conditions, but whether AS explains the link between pain and PTSD symptom severity has not been examined. Findings from this study suggest that AS, particularly AS cognitive concerns, may mediate the relationship between self-reported pain and PTSD symptom severity, especially among veteran samples.

Evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of a mobile-based health technology for smoking cessation: Mobile Anxiety Sensitivity Program

Lorra Garey et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the initial feasibility and acceptability of the Mobile Anxiety Sensitivity Program for smoking (MASP) for individuals wanting to quit smoking. Results showed high participant engagement with MASP and some smokers achieved at least 24-hour abstinence post-quit. Mobile-based smoking cessation interventions have the potential to effectively assist those looking to quit smoking.

Exploring transdiagnostic processes for chronic pain and opioid misuse among two studies of adults with chronic pain

Andrew H. Rogers et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of transdiagnostic psychosocial factors such as pain-related anxiety, anxiety sensitivity, emotion dysregulation, and distress tolerance on chronic pain and opioid outcomes. The results indicate that these factors have independent effects on pain and opioid outcomes, with pain-related anxiety most strongly related to pain intensity and interference, anxiety sensitivity related to opioid misuse, and emotion dysregulation related to all studied criterion variables.
