Assessment of groundwater vulnerability using analytical hierarchy process and evidential belief function with DRASTIC parameters, Cuddalore, India

T. Saranya et al.

Summary: Groundwater, as a reliable source of fresh water throughout the year, is facing threats to its quality and quantity due to climate changes and human activities. It is necessary to identify vulnerable areas to protect the available resources. This study applied two groundwater vulnerability mapping methods, AHP-DRASTIC and EBF-DRASTIC, to the Cuddalore District in India, using modified DRASTIC method and remote sensing and GIS techniques. The models were validated using ROC and the EBF-DRASTIC model was found to be the most suitable for the study region.

Evaluation of the groundwater resources vulnerability index using nitrate concentration prediction approach

Hamid Kardan Moghaddam et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the vulnerability of aquifers to nitrate concentration variations using modeling, with results showing most wells facing increased concentrations, particularly in lower areas of agricultural and urban lands. The prediction map was used to calibrate the vulnerability index, with central aquifer parts downstream of agricultural and urban areas showing the highest vulnerability degree. Correlation analysis demonstrated improved accuracy in identifying areas susceptible to development with reduced vulnerability.

Groundwater vulnerability assessment in Khulna district of Bangladesh by integrating fuzzy algorithm and DRASTIC (DRASTIC-L) model

Mizbah Ahmed Sresto et al.

Summary: Effective groundwater resource management is critical due to climate change, especially in areas with high water demand. This study applied a fuzzy AHP method and modified DRASTIC-L model to assess groundwater vulnerability in the Khulna district. The results identified areas of high vulnerability, with about 18.93% at risk of groundwater quality issues. Correlation analysis between groundwater vulnerability index and quality parameters showed positive relationships with Chlorine concentration and electrical conductivity.

Drastic model application to groundwater vulnerability elucidation for decision making: the case of south western coastal basin, Ghana

Robert Kofi Yankey et al.

Summary: The DRASTIC model was used to assess aquifer vulnerability to contamination, with modifications made to increase accuracy. The results showed changes in the area of vulnerable land and improvements in vulnerability categories after parameters including land use and lineament density were included in the model.
