Innovation decisions through firm life cycle: A new evidence from emerging markets

Farrukh Shahzad et al.

Summary: This paper empirically evaluates how different firm life cycle stages influence managers while making firms' input and output innovation decisions under asset liquidity constraints, idiosyncratic risk, and cash flow risk. It finds that firms make more investments in input innovation activities during the introduction, growth, and decline stages in the presence of more asset liquidity; in contrast, less investment is made during the mature stage. The study predicts that firms are more likely to invest in input innovation activities during the introduction, growth, and decline stages under more idiosyncratic and cash flow volatilities, however, such investment is less prospective during the mature stage.

Financial leverage and corporate innovation in Chinese public-listed firms

Najaf Iqbal et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of financial leverage on corporate innovation in Chinese nonfinancial public firms. The findings show that financial leverage has varying effects on innovation, being detrimental to input innovation and beneficial to output innovation when measured by patents. However, leverage has a negative influence on output innovation when measured by inventions. The sensitivity to changes in leverage is higher in state-owned enterprises compared to non-state-owned enterprises.

Asymmetric inter-linkages between green technology innovation and consumption-based carbon emissions in BRICS countries using quantile-on-quantile framework

Asif Razzaq et al.

Summary: The study reveals that in BRICS countries, green technology innovation has a significant emission-reducing effect at high emission quantiles, while it is weakly or positively correlated with carbon emissions at low emission quantiles. Conversely, high carbon emissions instigate green innovation across medium to high emission quantiles. The results suggest that when a country has higher emissions levels, green technology innovation can help mitigate carbon emissions.
