Short-term psychological consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic: Results of the first wave of an ecological daily study in the Italian population

Emanuele Preti et al.

Summary: Poor cognition of COVID-19, frequent news checking, higher anxiety, and lower credibility of information sources are positively associated with psychological distress. Females, younger individuals, residents of high-risk regions, those with COVID-19 symptoms or affected relatives/friends are more likely to have a poorer perception of the pandemic and experience distress. Social support and cognitive reappraisal act as protective factors for mental health.

A Cross-Country Examination on the Fear of COVID-19 and the Sense of Loneliness during the First Wave of COVID-19 Outbreak

Gianluca Lo Coco et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore gender, age, and cross-country differences in fear of COVID-19 and loneliness during lockdown, comparing countries with high infection rates (e.g., Spain and Italy) to countries with mild spread (e.g., Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina). In severely impacted countries, both males and females of all age groups reported greater fear and loneliness, while in less affected countries, females and the elderly reported more symptoms. The differences were more complex in Spanish and Italian samples.

Psychological distress associated with the COVID-19 lockdown: A two-wave network analysis

Maria Di Blasi et al.

Summary: This study found through network analysis that depression, stress, anxiety, and fear of COVID-19 formed a spatially contiguous pattern. After the lockdown, fear of COVID-19 weakened in the network, while intolerant of uncertainty and emotion suppression were associated with depression. Emotion regulation was connected to depression, but not stress and anxiety. Perceived emotional support had few connections to the other nodes in the network.

These results offer insights into understanding differences in health and resilience during the pandemic.

Mental Health of Children and Adolescents Amidst COVID-19 and Past Pandemics: A Rapid Systematic Review

Salima Meherali et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic and associated public health measures have had a significant impact on the mental health of children and adolescents, leading to increased stress, worry, and behavioral problems. Interventions such as art-based programs, support services, and clinician-led mental health services have been shown to effectively decrease mental health issues among children and adolescents. Monitoring the impact of the pandemic on young people's mental health and developing tailored strategies to improve outcomes are crucial for addressing long-term consequences.
