A Longitudinal and Gender Invariance Analysis of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire Across Ages 3, 5, 7, 11, 14, and 17 in a Large UK-Representative Sample

Aja Louise Murray et al.

Summary: Through the Millennium Cohort Study data, we found that the fit of SDQ was poor at age 3 in both males and females, and in males at age 17; however, it fit well at ages 5, 7, 11, and 14 and its scores were measurement invariant up to the residual level across gender. The parent-reported SDQ can be used to estimate developmental trajectories of emotional problems, conduct problems, hyperactivity/inattention, prosociality, and peer problems and their gender differences between the ages of 5 to 14.

Daily stress and coping strategies: Relationships with anxiety and resilience in preadolescents from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

Veronica Portillo-Reyes et al.

Summary: This study aims to examine the impact of daily stressors and coping strategies on anxiety and resilience in preadolescents living in Mexico. The findings suggest that daily stressors are positively related to anxiety levels, while non-productive coping strategies are associated with higher anxiety levels and relying on others strategy is associated with lower anxiety levels. Both productive coping and non-productive coping strategies are related to greater resilience.

Stress in Parents of School-Age Children and Adolescents With Cochlear Implants

Kathryn B. Wiseman et al.

Summary: This study found that parents of modern-day CI users reported significantly lower stress compared to parents of children using older-generation CI technology and similar levels of overall stress to parents of young children preimplantation. However, significant item-level differences emerged (e.g., communication, device management) pre- versus postimplant. Child temperament significantly predicted parental stress after controlling for other variables.

Numerical Magnitude Processing in Deaf Adolescents and Its Contribution to Arithmetical Ability

Lilan Chen et al.

Summary: This study examined the contribution of numerical magnitude processing to arithmetic ability in deaf adolescents, finding that congenital deaf individuals outperformed acquired deaf individuals in numerical magnitude processing and arithmetic computation. There was a close association between numerical magnitude processing and arithmetic computation in all deaf adolescents, and numerical magnitude processing was found to predict arithmetic computation in deaf adolescents.
