BUILDING SOCIAL COHESION IN ETHNICALLY MIXED SCHOOLS: AN INTERVENTION ON PERSPECTIVE TAKING

Sule Alan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of an educational program aimed at building social cohesion in ethnically mixed schools by developing children's perspective-taking ability. The program significantly reduced peer violence and victimization, increased interethnic social ties, and improved prosocial behavior among students. The enhanced prosociality was shown to be welfare improving from the ex post payoff perspective, with children's increased effort to take others' perspectives being the most robust mechanism to explain the results.
