PrEP uptake as a social movement among gay and bisexual men

Walter Gomez et al.

Summary: Despite the effectiveness of PrEP in preventing HIV infection, uptake among gay and bisexual men is low. This study explores the potential of using strategies from past AIDS activism to increase PrEP uptake. The findings suggest that framing PrEP as an empowering and community-building intervention and deploying lay knowledge through peer-based interventions could be effective in increasing PrEP uptake. However, addressing PrEP stigma is crucial to meet the diverse HIV prevention needs of gay and bisexual men.
