Moving beyond self-reports to estimate the prevalence of commercial contract cheating: an Australian study

Summary: Through incentivized truth-telling methods, research in Australia indicates a higher prevalence of commercial contract cheating than self-report surveys suggest, with around 7.9% of students buying and submitting assignments, and 11.4% outsourcing assessments through commercial file-sharing sites. Students with a first language other than English are more likely to engage in commercial contract cheating.

However, a recent study found that students who completed an Academic Integrity Course showed lower understanding and support for university policies on academic integrity, as well as higher levels of peer engagement in academic misconduct.

Spinning-translation and the act of plagiarising: how to avoid and resist

Scholars and authors worldwide have been addressing this issue by presenting strategies that deal with online plagiarism services and writing tools. The spinning-translation method is introduced as a way to tackle plagiarism in classroom settings, utilizing language translation aids and online paraphrasing tools. Additionally, efforts are made to emphasize the importance of academic research integrity codes, as well as the potential use of plagiarism detection services to address spinning-translation and prevent plagiarism in educational environments.
