Rule of law and CO2 emissions: A comparative analysis across 65 belt and road initiative(BRI) countries

Sulaman Muhammad et al.

Summary: The study shows that institutional factors such as political stability, corruption control, and rule of law are crucial in reducing carbon emissions and improving environmental quality, with the interaction between political stability and rule of law having the potential to decrease CO2 emissions. Furthermore, foreign direct investment has heterogeneous effects on carbon emissions across different income groups, and trade openness has differing impacts on CO2 emissions in countries with varying income levels.

Environmental aspect of energy transition and urbanization in the OPEC member states

Stephen Taiwo Onifade et al.

Summary: The study finds that fossil fuel utilization has a significant positive impact on environmental degradation in the selected OPEC countries, while the negative impact of renewable energy utilization and urbanization on carbon dioxide emissions is insignificant in both the short and long run. The current energy transition policy of OPEC states is not sufficient for environmental sustainability, and the Environmental Kuznets Curve is not valid in the panel of OPEC countries. The research also shows a uni-directional causality from income level to renewable energy consumption, and urbanization strongly Granger causes fossil fuel use and CO2 emissions among the countries.

Carbon emission effect of renewable energy utilization, fiscal development, and foreign direct investment in South Africa

Daberechi Chikezie Ekwueme et al.

Summary: The study in South Africa shows significant correlations among renewable energy, economic growth, financial development, and CO2 emissions, with positive correlations in the long term and mixed correlations in the short term. Granger causality results demonstrate bidirectional stimulus from renewable energy to economic growth, as well as causal relationships among other variables. Recommendations include enhancing energy efficiency programs and aligning them with macroeconomic and financial variables to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve environmental sustainability.

Exploring a new perspective of sustainable development drive through environmental Phillips curve in the case of the BRICST countries

Muhammad Khalid Anser et al.

Summary: The study analyzed a panel dataset of BRICST countries from 1992 to 2016, confirming a significant trade-off between unemployment and environmental degradation, and indicating that renewable energy consumption improves environmental quality while conventional energy sources are detrimental. The research suggests increasing the proportion of renewable energy in the energy mix to improve environmental quality and advance the sustainable development goals of BRICST countries.

Clean energy development in the United States amidst augmented socioeconomic aspects and country-specific policies

Andrew Adewale Alola et al.

Summary: This study examined the driving impacts of economic policy uncertainty, trade policy, and national security on the development of cleaner energy sources, revealing that economic expansion and national security effectiveness significantly promote cleaner energy development, while tighter trade policies and high EU are detrimental. The findings suggest a need for cleaner and energy efficiency policy directives for policymakers in the United States and other countries to address climate action and sustainable development.

The impact of energy consumption on environmental quality: empirical evidence from the MINT countries

Esther Abdul Agbede et al.

Summary: The study reveals a positive and significant impact of economic growth, energy consumption, and bio-capacity on environmental degradation in the long run. Energy consumption deteriorates environmental quality through a negative effect of ecological footprint. Moreover, policy implications are discussed based on the findings.
