Summary: This paper utilizes the 2013 carbon emissions trading pilot study as a quasi-natural experiment, analyzes panel data from 30 provinces and cities in China from 2000 to 2017, and finds that the carbon ETS can significantly improve energy efficiency by promoting technological innovation of enterprises. However, there may exist an energy rebound effect.
