Characterizing and Improving the Thermal Stability of Organic Photovoltaics Based on Halogen-Rich Non-Fullerene Acceptors

Kan Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermal stability of inverted, halogen-rich non-fullerene acceptor (NFA)-based organic photovoltaics with MoOx as the hole transporting layer was investigated. The power conversion efficiency showed a check-mark shaped thermal aging pattern, which was explained by the presence of a high Cl concentration at the BHJ/MoOx interface and the chlorination of MoOx after thermal aging. Inserting a thin C-70 layer between BHJ and MoOx effectively suppressed the thermal degradation mechanisms and significantly increased the device lifetime at 80 degrees C.
