Adaptation to a low carbohydrate high fat diet is rapid but impairs endurance exercise metabolism and performance despite enhanced glycogen availability

Louise M. Burke et al.

Summary: Elite athletes adapting to a low carbohydrate high fat diet for a brief period showed increased exercise fat oxidation, but impaired high-intensity endurance performance and decreased CHO oxidation rates. Acute restoration of CHO availability did not improve performance.

A validated method for the simultaneous quantification of cannabidiol, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, and their metabolites in human plasma and application to plasma samples from an oral cannabidiol open-label trial

Richard C. Kevin et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for the simultaneous quantification of CBD, THC and their major Phase I metabolites was developed, optimized and validated according to FDA guidelines. The method is accurate, reproducible, sensitive, and can be carried out in high-throughput 96-well formats for larger scale clinical trials. Deuterated internal standards were crucial to account for variable matrix effects between plasma lots. The application of the method to plasma samples from individuals undergoing oral CBD treatment in an open-label trial of CBD effects in anxiety disorders demonstrated its immediate utility for ongoing and upcoming clinical trials, with potential to accommodate additional metabolites as analytical reference materials become commercially available.

The Effects of Cannabidiol Oil on Noninvasive Measures of Muscle Damage in Men

Kristen C. Cochrane-Snyman et al.

Summary: The study found that CBD oil had no effect on noninvasive markers of muscle damage, showing no condition-time interaction or main effect of condition. However, there were main effects for time on perceived soreness and hanging joint angle.

Effects of Cannabidiol Supplementation on Skeletal Muscle Regeneration after Intensive Resistance Training

Eduard Isenmann et al.

Summary: The study found that single CBD supplementation had small but significant effects on muscle damage and recovery of squat performance after 72 hours in athletes. However, more data is needed to make clearer statements about the potential pro-regenerative effects of CBD supplementation after resistance training.
