Production routes to tailor the performance of cellulose nanocrystals

Oriana M. Vanderfleet et al.

Summary: This Review evaluates the properties of CNCs from more than 30 production routes and 40 biomass sources to guide users in selecting the right material for their desired application. CNCs produced by various methods are assessed against three target properties: colloidal stability, size, and crystallinity index. Alternative production routes and starting materials are suggested to overcome challenges associated with CNC use, including improving compatibility with hydrophobic materials, resistance to thermal degradation, and colloidal stability in high ionic strength environments.

Recycling Baby Diaper Waste into Cellulose and Nanocellulose

C. Trilokesh et al.

Summary: In this study, baby diaper wastes were successfully recycled into cellulose and nanocellulose. The extracted cellulose exhibited high crystallinity and purity, making it suitable for various applications. Spherical cellulose nanocrystals (SCNCs) were produced with a size range of 50-190 nm, showing potential for further research and development.

Effect of ball milling on cellulose nanoparticles structure obtained from garlic and agave waste

Josue David Hernandez-Varela et al.

Summary: This study aimed to obtain cellulose and cellulose nanoparticles (CNP) from garlic and agave wastes and elucidate their structure at different scales using microscopy and spectroscopy techniques. The results confirmed that the crystalline structure of CNP is dependent on its initial microstructural arrangement.
