Emerging Era of Electrolyte Solvation Structure and Interfacial Model in Batteries

Haoran Cheng et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that not only the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer but also the metal-ion solvation structure and interfacial model in the electrolyte significantly affect the performance of lithium-ion batteries. In this paper, the authors summarize recent studies on the importance of electrolyte solvation structure, develop a quantitative model, and propose an interfacial model to understand the electrode's performance. These findings may lead to a new era beyond the SEI and have implications for the design and improvement of LIBs.

High performance sodium-ion battery anode using biomass derived hard carbon with engineered defective sites

Thileep Kumar Kumaresan et al.

Summary: Defective hard carbons from Borassus flabellifer male inflorescence were successfully prepared via controlled thermal activation process and demonstrated outstanding performance when used as anode material in sodium-ion batteries. The broken edges on the hard carbon surface and randomly distributed micro-nano structured pores were found to be key factors contributing to the exceptional performance achieved.

Elucidating the Mechanism of Fast Na Storage Kinetics in Ether Electrolytes for Hard Carbon Anodes

Ruiqi Dong et al.

Summary: The sodium storage performance of hard carbon in ether electrolytes is superior, attributed to a unique solvated Na+ and Na+ co-intercalation mechanism in designed monodispersed HC nanospheres. Additionally, a thin solid electrolyte interphase film formed in ether electrolytes facilitates Na+ transportation and results in a high initial Coulombic efficiency.

Controllable Heterojunctions with a Semicoherent Phase Boundary Boosting the Potassium Storage of CoSe2/FeSe2

Hui Shan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that heterostructure construction is an efficient method for enhancing K+ storage of transition metal selenides. Through obtaining materials with rich vacancies and ultrafine heterojunctions, the reversible potassium storage performance in potassium-ion batteries was significantly improved. Additionally, theoretical calculations show that the controllable heterojunction can dramatically promote potassium-ion diffusion.
