The Significance of Properly Reporting Turnover Frequency in Electrocatalysis Research

Sengeni Anantharaj et al.

Summary: Turnover frequency (TOF) has long been used as an accurate indicator of the intrinsic activity of catalysts in electrocatalytic reactions, but is often not properly reported. While current density is significant in determining apparent activity, TOF can more accurately reflect intrinsic activity free from interfering phenomena, yet remains underused in electrocatalysis.

Boosting oxygen evolution reaction activity by tailoring MOF-derived hierarchical Co-Ni alloy nanoparticles encapsulated in nitrogen-doped carbon frameworks

Xiaobin Liu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a controllable strategy for preparing cobalt-nickel alloy nanoparticles encapsulated in nitrogen-doped porous carbon through annealing a bimetal-organic framework. The optimized hierarchical Co2Ni@NC nanoparticles exhibit abundant synergistic active sites for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with a small overpotential and excellent long-term stability in alkaline electrolyte. Density functional theory calculations elucidate the underlying synergistic effect mechanism of the Co-Ni model.

Large-current-stable bifunctional nanoporous Fe-rich nitride electrocatalysts for highly efficient overall water and urea splitting

Fengming Cai et al.

Summary: The study introduces a bifunctional nanoporous Fe-rich nitride hybrid electrocatalyst with extraordinary catalytic activities for both oxygen evolution and urea oxidation reactions, showing impressive long-term durability at large current densities. By combining this catalyst with an efficient NiMoO4-H-2 catalyst for hydrogen evolution, the researchers achieved commercially viable current densities for overall water and urea electrolysis with outstanding long-term durability, surpassing most reported electrolyzers. This work presents a novel approach to develop multifunctional electrocatalysts using earth-abundant elements for energy-efficient hydrogen production and pollution treatment in urea-rich wastewater.

A Raman Spectroscopic Analysis of Polymer Membranes with Graphene Oxide and Reduced Graphene Oxide

Anna Kolodziej et al.

Summary: Novel composites consisting of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) and two types of graphene materials, graphene oxide (GO) and partially reduced graphene oxide (rGO), significantly influence the structure organization of the polymeric matrix, with GO acting as a nucleation agent to enhance PCL crystallization. The characteristics of the studied nanofillers, such as the level of organization (D/G ratio) and the in-plane size of the nano-crystallites (L-a), do not differ greatly, but have the ability to impact the polymeric matrix differently.
