Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the Structural, Mechanical, and Reprocessing Properties of Vitrimers Based on a Dynamic Covalent Polymer Network

Hengheng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study utilizes coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the effect of bond swap energy barrier (Delta E-sw) on the mechanical properties of vitrimers. The results show that Delta E-sw plays a critical role in the dynamics of linear chains and reactive beads. The study also demonstrates that an intermediate value of Delta E-sw can achieve the best mechanical performance characteristics. Additionally, the study explores the impact of Delta E-sw on stress relaxation, self-healing capability, and extrusion rate of polymer vitrimers.

Effect of bond exchange rate on dynamics and mechanics of vitrimers

Alessandro Perego et al.

Summary: Thermoset polymers are difficult to recycle due to their permanent crosslinks. Vitrimers, with dynamic covalent bonds, offer recyclability. The study uses a hybrid MD-MC technique to simulate adaptive networks, showing that adjusting energy difference affects dynamic and mechanical properties, and a higher number of exchanges results in larger deformation and more homogenous stress distribution in vitrimers.

Transesterification in Vitrimer Polymers Using Bifunctional Catalysts: Modeled with Solution-Phase Experimental Rates and Theoretical Analysis of Efficiency and Mechanisms

Shusil Bhusal et al.

Summary: This study combines experimental and DFT simulation methods to investigate the catalytic efficiency and mechanism of transesterification reaction in thermoset vitrimer polymers. The results reveal the impact order of different catalysts on the reaction as TBD > DBTO > Zn(OAc)2 > 1-MI, and analyze the reaction mechanism and rates through parameters such as Fukui indices.

Neighboring Group Participation and Internal Catalysis Effects on Exchangeable Covalent Bonds: Application to the Thriving Field of Vitrimer Chemistry

Florian Cuminet et al.

Summary: Vitrimers are promising polymer materials with chemical resistance, reshaping ability, and unique rheological behavior, but many require high catalyst loadings, limiting their potential applications; internal catalysis and neighboring group participation can enhance the reshaping ability of such materials; knowledge on the effect of activating groups on exchange reactions in Vitrimers remains scarce.
