Characterization of Particulates from Australian Underground Coal Mines

Nikky LaBranche et al.

Summary: The re-identification of coal workers' pneumoconiosis in Queensland in 2015 has led to improvements in exposure monitoring and health surveillance in Australia. Characterization analysis of respirable dust samples collected from four operating underground coal mines in Australia found multiple mineralogical classes present with their own particle size distributions. Variations between mines had a larger effect on particle size distribution than differences in mining processes within individual mines.
