Pulmonary metastasectomy with lymphadenectomy for colorectal pulmonary metastases: A systematic review

Martijn van Dorp et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review on the impact of simultaneous lymph node metastases on patient survival during metastasectomy for colorectal pulmonary metastases (CRPM). The results showed that simultaneous lymph node metastases have a detrimental impact on survival, especially for mediastinal lymph node metastases. Therefore, lymphadenectomy during pulmonary metastasectomy for CRPM is advised to obtain important prognostic value.

Report from the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons database 2019: current surgical practice and perioperative outcomes of pulmonary metastasectomy

Michel Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study provides an overview of surgical practices and outcomes in patients undergoing pulmonary metastasectomy based on data from the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons database. The study found a gradual acceptance of VATS procedures with lower morbidity rates and shorter hospital stays compared to open surgery in recent years.

Results of redo pulmonary metastasectomy

Vincenzo Ambrogi et al.

Summary: Based on the review of literature on redo pulmonary metastasectomies, it was found that disease-free interval before surgery was the predominant prognostic factor, with a 5-year survival rate of approximately 50% post redo lung metastasectomy. The procedure is deemed worthwhile when lesions are resectable and perioperative risk is low.

The role of pulmonary metastasectomy for pulmonary metastasis from head and neck cancer

Satoshi Shiono

Summary: The incidence of distant metastasis from head and neck cancers varies, and pulmonary metastasectomy can improve prognosis, with factors such as squamous cell carcinoma, incomplete resection, short disease-free interval, and oral cancer affecting outcomes. Immune therapy has shown longer overall survival, while molecular techniques aid in distinguishing between different lung lesions.

Preoperative evaluation and indications for pulmonary metastasectomy

Ryu Kanzaki et al.

Summary: Pulmonary metastasectomy (PM) is an established treatment for patients with metastatic lung tumors, with indications based on factors such as patient condition, primary malignancy control, absence of extrapulmonary metastases, and resectability of pulmonary lesions. Multidisciplinary discussions and consideration of prognostic factors are essential when determining eligibility for PM.

Pulmonary metastasectomy in colorectal carcinoma

Paul Beckers et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with some patients able to undergo pulmonary metastasectomy for treatment. Patients who undergo surgery have a 5-year survival rate of approximately 40%, but there is a lack of prospective data on the surgical outcomes.
