Task-sharing interventions for improving control of diabetes in low-income and middle-income countries: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Joseph Linju Maria et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of task-sharing intervention strategies for managing type 2 diabetes in low-income and middle-income countries. The results indicate that interventions led by nurses and pharmacists were effective in reducing HbA(1c) levels, while interventions by dietitians and community health workers showed weaker effects. For fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels, interventions led by pharmacists were more effective compared to nurses and community health workers.

Out-of-Pocket Health Expenditure and Poverty: Evidence from a Dynamic Panel Threshold Analysis

Abdalla Sirag et al.

Summary: The study found that out-of-pocket health expenditure only leads to increased poverty beyond a certain threshold, around 29%. When controlling for heterogeneity in the sample, it was observed that the threshold varied across income groups, with higher values for lower- and lower-middle-income groups. Below the threshold, out-of-pocket health expenditure had a positive or insignificant effect on poverty reduction in lower-income groups, while leading to higher poverty above the threshold.
