Critical comparison of direct analysis in real time orbitrap mass spectrometry (DART-Orbitrap MS) towards liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for mycotoxin detection in cereal matrices

A. S. Tsagkaris et al.

Summary: A new method for mycotoxin analysis, DART-Orbitrap MS, was developed and validated in this study, showing rapid, unequivocal, and precise characteristics for monitoring mycotoxins in cereal matrices. A critical comparison with traditional LC-MS methods revealed that DART-Orbitrap MS has advantages in high throughput and rapidity, but falls slightly short in detectability compared to LC-MS.

A Dilute and Shoot Strategy for Determining Alternaria Toxins in Tomato-Based Samples and in Different Flours Using LC-IDMS Separation

Adam Tolgyesi et al.

Summary: This paper describes a dilute and shoot approach to determine five Alternaria toxins in food samples, with quantification based on isotope dilution and high sensitivity detection. The method showed lower quantification limits and acceptable accuracy, making it a potential alternative for laboratories with enhanced sensitivity instrumentation.

An enhanced open sandwich immunoassay by molecular evolution for noncompetitive detection of Alternaria mycotoxin tenuazonic acid

Yifan Liang et al.

Summary: The open sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (OS-ELISA) has great potential for rapid detection of small molecules compared to traditional methods. An enhanced OS-ELISA for detecting the mycotoxin tenuazonic acid (TeA) showed increased sensitivity and accurate detection in juice, flour, and tomato ketchup samples. The method was validated to be highly accurate using the standard ultra-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) technique.
