The rumen microbiome: balancing food security and environmental impacts

Itzhak Mizrahi et al.

Summary: Ruminants produce edible products and methane through their complex rumen microbial community. Traditional methods to reduce methane production have limited and temporary effects. Increased understanding of the host-microbiome interactions has led to new mitigation strategies.

Effects of feeding varying levels of hempseed meal on dry matter intake, rumen fermentation, in vitro digestibility, blood metabolites, and growth performance of growing meat goats

Frank W. Abrahamsen et al.

Summary: The results of this study showed that increasing levels of HSM supplementation led to a linear decrease in total live weight gain, average daily gain, and feed efficiency. Additionally, rumen fermentation parameters and blood metabolites exhibited linear decreases with increasing HSM inclusion rates. Serum albumin and total protein levels showed quadratic responses, while BUN and creatine kinase levels increased linearly with increased HSM supplementation.
