Physiological response of Arizona cypress to Cd-contaminated soil inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria

Hamed Aalipour et al.

Summary: Increasing industrial activities have led to soil contamination with toxic metals, but beneficial soil microorganisms like Pseudomonas fluorescens and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can help reduce the toxic effects of heavy metals. This study found that co-inoculation with AMF and P. fluorescens or individual inoculation with AMF could potentially mitigate the harmful effects of cadmium on Arizona cypress growth, increasing photosynthetic pigments and enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities. Additionally, AMF treatments increased glomalin related soil proteins concentration, showing potential for environmental remediation.

Summary: This study investigated the defense mechanisms of wild and cultivated pigeonpea genotypes against pod borer infestation, revealing higher pest-induced gene expression and secondary metabolite accumulations in the wild genotype. The findings suggest the existence of distinct tolerance mechanisms that could be important in devising strategies for crop improvement with enhanced pest resistance.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi-induced mitigation of heavy metal phytotoxicity in metal contaminated soils: A critical review

Muhammad Riaz et al.

Summary: The review summarizes the current knowledge regarding AMF-assisted remediation of heavy metals and the strategies used by mycorrhizal fungi to cope with stressful environments. Significant progress has been made in recent years on the physiological and molecular mechanisms of AMF in alleviating heavy metal toxicity in plants, obtaining nutrients, and improving plant performance under toxic conditions.

Strigolactone GR24 improves cadmium tolerance by regulating cadmium uptake, nitric oxide signaling and antioxidant metabolism in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)

Cheng-Wei Qiu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that exogenous strigolactone analogue GR24 can reduce Cd toxicity by decreasing Cd contents, balancing nutrient elements, and protecting plants from oxidative damage, indirectly eliminating ROS, thus reducing the potential risk of Cd pollution.

Gene expression analysis for selection and validation of suitable housekeeping gene(s) in cadmium exposed pigeonpea plants inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizae

Aditi Bisht et al.

Summary: The stability of six commonly used housekeeping genes in pigeonpea under cadmium stress was analyzed, with TUB6 identified as the most stable and EF1α as the least stable reference gene. The expression of metallothionein was affected by the choice of reference gene under metal stress and arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculation conditions.

Color attributes, betacyanin, and carotenoid profiles, bioactive components, and radical quenching capacity in selected Amaranthus gangeticus leafy vegetables

Umakanta Sarker et al.

Summary: This research evaluated four selected A. gangeticus accessions in terms of color attributes, phytopigments, proximate, minerals, and antioxidant capacity, finding significant variations across the accessions. The LS7 and LS9 accessions showed considerable antioxidant potential and could be preferred as potent antioxidant varieties for consumption. The identified betacyanin and carotenoid components in A. gangeticus require further pharmacological study.
