Quantitative assessment of ground deformation risks, controlling factors and movement trends for onshore petroleum and gas industry using satellite Radar remote sensing and spatial statistics

Emil Bayramov et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively assessed the ground deformation rates in the oil and gas fields of the Absheron Peninsula using synthetic aperture radar technology. It identified natural and man-made factors influencing the deformation processes and predicted trends. The results showed the existence of ground deformation, with two fields being primarily affected by human activities and one field affected by both natural and human processes. Well concentration and elevation factors explained 32% of the subsidence processes.

Quantitative Assessment of Vertical and Horizontal Deformations Derived by 3D and 2D Decompositions of InSAR Line-of-Sight Measurements to Supplement Industry Surveillance Programs in the Tengiz Oilfield (Kazakhstan)

Emil Bayramov et al.

Summary: This research focused on quantitatively assessing surface deformation velocities and rates at Tengiz Oilfield in Kazakhstan using remote sensing techniques. The study revealed continuous subsidence at the oilfield due to natural and man-made factors, with maximum annual vertical deformation velocity reaching 70 mm. The results will support operators of oil and gas fields and other infrastructure in evaluating ground deformation measurements.

A review of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods applied in Kazakhstan

Bianca Anne Bealessio et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the application of enhanced oil recovery methods in Kazakhstan, focusing on thermal and polymer injection. While thermal EOR methods have been successful with favorable impacts on mobility ratio, polymer injection has shown promise despite some challenges.
