Surface radiation characteristics and downward cloud radiative forcing in southern Xinjiang during summer 2019

Jianrong Bi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the surface radiation characteristics and evaluated cloud radiative forcing in southern Xinjiang during summer 2019. The results showed that clouds have a net cooling effect on the regional climate. The negative cloud radiative forcing partly counteracts global warming and modulates the Earth's radiation budget balance.

Summary: Dust events in Xinjiang Basin mainly occur in Southern Xinjiang, with over 73% of events happening in spring and summer. The dust index shows a significant downward trend, particularly in Southern Xinjiang, and is positively correlated with surface wind speed.

Interactions of Asian mineral dust with Indian summer monsoon: Recent advances and challenges

Qinjian Jin et al.

Summary: The Indian summer monsoon is crucial for providing the majority of annual rainfall to the Indian subcontinent and affecting over a quarter of the world's population. Asia is also a significant source of dust, and the interactions between dust and the monsoon are increasingly studied. Dust particles can modulate monsoon circulation and precipitation, while the monsoon can in turn influence dust emissions and deposition.

Quantifying the range of the dust direct radiative effect due to source mineralogy uncertainty

Longlei Li et al.

Summary: The large uncertainty in the mineral dust direct radiative effect is hindered by the uncertainties in surface soil mineralogical content. Shortwave DRE responds region-specifically depending on mineral speciation and surface albedo. Iron oxides play a disproportionately large impact on climate compared to their small fractional burden in the atmosphere.
