Understanding the dynamics of the resource curse and financial development in China? A novel evidence based on QARDL model

Summary: This study employs the Quantile Autoregressive Distributed Lag (QARDL) model to analyze the relationship between natural resource rent and financial development, revealing that the relationship is quantile-dependent and providing meaningful contributions. Findings reject parameter constancy for the Chinese economy and suggest a resource curse hypothesis, while also identifying GDP, gross capital formation, and trade openness as positive determinants of financial development. The study recommends addressing the negative linkage between resource rent and financial development in the long run.
