Exploring the potential of coconut shell biomass for charcoal production

Rabi Kabir Ahmad et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the characteristics of coconut shell biomass, including chemical structure, energy potential, and morphological analysis. The study finds that coconut shells have important qualities for charcoal production, such as high density, high calorific value, low moisture content, and ash. Additionally, coconut shells contain trace amounts of complex heavy metals and sulfur/nitrogen, making them suitable for thermochemical conversion without pre-treatment. With its carbon-rich and environmentally friendly properties, coconut shell biomass can be used as an alternative energy source.

Fabrication of Zn and Mn loaded activated carbon derived from corn cobs for the adsorptive desulfurization of model and real fuel oils

Muhammad Yaseen et al.

Summary: In this study, zinc and manganese loaded activated carbon derived from corn cobs were used for adsorptive desulfurization of model and real fuel oils. The results showed that Zn/AC and Mn/AC performed better in removing dibenzothiophene, following pseudo 2nd order kinetics and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. The prepared adsorbents remained highly active for six repeated cycles with minimal decrease in desulfurization performance under the optimized reaction conditions.

A kinetic study of methane hydrate formation in the corn Cobs plus Tetrahydrofuran solution system

Yi-Song Yu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the kinetics of methane hydrate formation using corn cobs and Tetrahydrofuran as additives. The results demonstrated that corn cobs had a positive impact on methane uptake at lower THF concentrations, with the optimum conditions leading to the highest gas uptake and shortest time to reach 90% of this uptake. Additionally, despite operating conditions beyond sI methane hydrate equilibrium, only sII hydrates were observed, with methane molecules not only trapped in the 512 cages but also in the 51264 cages of sII.

Preparation and characterization of SiO2@C nanocomposites from rice husk for removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution

M. F. Zawrah et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared SiO2@C nanocomposites with different percentages of silica and carbon using a controlled method, and investigated their adsorption efficiency for removing Cu, Zn, and Pb from aqueous solutions. The nanocomposites with higher silica content exhibited smaller particle size, higher specific surface area, and higher negative zeta potential, while those with lower silica content showed the opposite trends. Adsorption efficiencies of the nanocomposites for Cu, Zn, and Pb were found to be high, and the adsorption process followed a pseudo-second order reaction.
