Summary: Percutaneous RFA resulted in sustained pain relief in the majority of advanced NSCLC patients with intractable pain resistant to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. There was a significant decrease in pain levels at 24-hour, 72-hour, and 4-week follow-up, along with reduced opioid use. Minor adverse events caused by RFA therapy were resolved by 4 weeks follow-up.

How Much Daily Image-guided Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy Is Useful for Proctitis Prevention With Respect to Static Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy Supported by Topical Medications Among Localized Prostate Cancer Patients?

Gianluca Ferini et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of topical support therapy during radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer patients to compare the risk of radiation proctitis between static-intensity modulated radiotherapy (sIMRT) and Image-guided volumetric modulated arc therapy (IG-VMAT). Results showed that IG-VMAT was generally more effective in reducing proctitis compared to sIMRT with topical medications, although the differences were not clinically relevant. Topical medications may have a role in preventing radiation proctitis.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy versus conventional external beam radiotherapy in patients with painful spinal metastases: an open-label, multicentre, randomised, controlled, phase 2/3 trial

Arjun Sahgal et al.

Summary: Stereotactic body radiotherapy at a dose of 24 Gy in two daily fractions was found to be superior to conventional external beam radiotherapy at a dose of 20 Gy in five daily fractions in improving the complete response rate for pain in patients with painful spinal metastasis. This suggests that conformal, image-guided, dose-escalated radiotherapy is appropriate for symptom control in selected patients with painful spinal metastases, highlighting the importance of specialized and multidisciplinary care in end-of-life treatment.
