Evaluating of the performance of natural mineral vermiculite modified PVDF membrane for oil/water separation by membrane fouling model and XDLVO theory

Tong Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel vermiculite nanoparticles modified poly(vinylidene fluoride) ultrafiltration membrane was successfully fabricated with improved water flux, rejection rate of BSA, and hydrophilicity. The stable flux of modified membrane for oil-in-water emulsions was significantly higher than that of pristine membrane, showing enhanced antifouling ability. The modified membrane exhibited a higher energy barrier and repulsive force for foulants, indicating its potential application value in oil/water separation.

TiO2 nanoparticle dispersions in water and nonaqueous solvents studied by gravitational sedimentation analysis: Complementarity of Hansen Parameters and DLVO interpretations

Lucie Delforce et al.

Summary: Hansen Solubility Parameters are effective for predicting the stability of TiO2 NPs dispersions, but electrostatic interactions play a significant role, especially in organic solvents. Zeta potential measurements and Turbiscan analysis can help differentiate between types of stabilized dispersions and understand the behavior of TiO2 dispersions in organic solvents.

Dynamic demulsification of oil-in-water emulsions with electrocoalescence: Diameter distribution of oil droplets

Jianlong Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of electrostatic demulsification for O/W emulsions, focusing on enhancing demulsification efficiency by adjusting parameters such as voltage, frequency, water content, and retention time. Results showed that applying a pulsed electric field was an effective technology for promoting the coalescence of emulsified oil droplets, leading to improved oil separation efficiency.

In situ biomineralization-constructed superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic PVDF-TiO2 membranes for superior antifouling separation of oil-in-water emulsions

Wei Deng et al.

Summary: The in situ biomineralization method was used to fabricate PVDF-TiO2 membranes with superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic properties, which showed excellent antifouling performance and high rejection of oil during crossflow filtration of oil-in-water emulsions. The superior performance of the membrane was attributed to the durable and super-wetting TiO2 coatings, as well as the relatively smooth surface structure that prevented oil trapping.

Study of Polyvinyl Alcohol-SiO2 Nanoparticles Polymeric Membrane in Wastewater Treatment Containing Zinc Ions

Simona Caprarescu et al.

Summary: The paper aimed to synthesize polyvinyl alcohol-SiO2 nanoparticles polymeric membrane by wet-phase inversion method and investigate its efficiency for zinc ion removal. Membranes with SiO2 showed higher zinc ion removal rate at 15 V. Characterization through various methods indicated their potential for removing pollutants in different waters.
