Multifunctional silk fibroin/PVA bio-nanocomposite films containing TEMPO-oxidized bacterial cellulose nanofibers and silver nanoparticles

Summary: A bio-nanocomposite material consisting of silk fibroin/polyvinyl alcohol as the matrix, TEMPO-oxidized bacterial cellulose nanofiber as the reinforcement, and silver nanoparticles as an antibacterial agent was synthesized. The mechanical and chemical properties of the material can be tailored by adjusting the content of bacterial cellulose nanofiber. The material also exhibits strong UV shielding property, antibacterial activities, and low silver leakage.

Summary: In this study, coconut coir was chemically converted to coir-polyols via atmospheric liquefaction under microwave assistance, and bio-composite films with different properties were prepared. After comprehensive characterization, the optimal dosage of reinforcing agents for achieving the best balance of properties in critical parameters was determined.

Enhanced Functional Properties of Biodegradable Polyvinyl Alcohol/Carboxymethyl Cellulose (PVA/CMC) Composite Films Reinforced with L-alanine Surface Modified CuO Nanorods

Summary: In this study, CuO nanorods were biogenically prepared and surface modified with L-alanine amino acid, using microwave irradiation. The functionalized CuO nanorods were then incorporated into polyvinyl alcohol/carboxymethyl cellulose films, resulting in improvements in tensile strength, UV shielding ability, and barrier to water vapors. The films also exhibited antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal activities, while showing minimal cytotoxic effects. The developed nanocomposite films have the potential to be used as active food packaging material.

Investigation on the altered properties of PVA filled magnesium oxide composite (PVA@xMgO) thin films

Summary: This study investigates the fabrication of pore-free PVA@MgO nanocomposite films by dispersing MgO filler in PVA matrix using solution casting technique. The films exhibited improved structural, optical, thermal, mechanical, dielectric and biodegradable properties with increasing MgO loading. The findings suggest the potential application of these nanocomposites in future power electronics, optoelectronics and semiconducting devices.

Starch-Polyvinyl Alcohol-Based Films Reinforced with Chitosan Nanoparticles: Physical, Mechanical, Structural, Thermal and Antimicrobial Properties

Summary: The study proposes innovative composite films based on a corn starch/polyvinyl alcohol blend loaded with chitosan nanoparticles to enhance its physical, mechanical, structural, thermal, and antimicrobial attributes. The addition of nanoparticles resulted in a uniform surface without pores, and improved water vapor permeability, total color, and tensile strength. Furthermore, the nanoparticles exhibited stronger antibacterial effects against Gram-positive bacteria. Overall, adding nanoparticles improved the functional and technological properties of the starch-PVA matrix.

Pronounced effect of PbI2 nanoparticles doping on optoelectronic properties of PVA films for photo-electronic applications

The results showed increased crystalline nature with higher PbI2 content and homogeneous distribution of PbI2 within the polymer. Dual optical properties of NiO-doped PVA nanocomposite films
