An integrated sustainable biorefinery concept towards achieving zero-waste production

Humzaa Imtiaz Ullah et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to design and analyze an integrated biodiesel biorefinery using a circular economy approach to achieve better economics and a zero-waste scenario. Different scenarios were evaluated based on profitability, sensitivity, and environmental analysis, with one scenario showing the highest profitability and another showing the least. Improvements were implemented to reduce waste production and enhance sustainability.

Sustainable bio-succinic acid production: superstructure optimization, techno-economic, and lifecycle assessment

Rofice Dickson et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the economics, environmental impact, risk assessment, and optimal processing route of bio-SA production from different feedstocks, identifying glycerol as the best feedstock and corn stover as the second best. Seaweed is found to be less suitable for large-scale bio-SA production due to high cost and difficulties in enzyme hydrolysis. Environmental results show that the pathway from glycerol is the most environmentally friendly, followed by corn stover, glucose, and seaweed.
