Synthesis and Characterization of Blended Cellulose Acetate Membranes

Abdullah M. Asiri et al.

Summary: The casting and preparation of ultrafiltration ZnO modified cellulose acetate membrane (CA/ZnO) were investigated in this work. The results showed that ZnO modified CA membranes have higher surface pore size, pore density and porosity, and improved surface hydrophilicity compared with pure CA membranes, but lower flux.

Removal of Copper (II), Zinc (II), Cobalt (II), and Nickel (II) Ions by PIMs Doped 2-Alkylimidazoles

Elzbieta Radzyminska-Lenarcik et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the use of 2-alkylimidazoles as ion carriers in polymer inclusion membranes for the separation of copper, zinc, cobalt, and nickel from aqueous solutions. By analyzing transport parameters and characterizing the membrane, the research provides valuable insights for metal ion separation technology.

Synthesis of a new thiophenol-thiophene polymer for the removal of mercury from wastewater and liquid hydrocarbons

Muhammad Alasad Albakri et al.

Summary: KFUPM-Hg, a novel thiophenol-thiophene polymer, was successfully synthesized and demonstrated excellent thermal stability and mercury adsorption capabilities in both aqueous and liquid hydrocarbon media. The polymer showed near quantitative removal of inorganic mercury (II) and methylmercury, following a pseudo-second order adsorption kinetics. These results were achieved without the need for post-synthesis modifications.

Summary: An optimization study was conducted on polymer inclusion membrane (PIM) optodes, focusing on chromophore composition, exposure time, and spectral data treatment methods, with the final recommended processing method being M3 for Design of Experiments (DoE) of PIMs. The optimal values varied depending on the metal ion, with distinct differences observed between PIMs for different metal ions.

Calixresorcin[4]arene-Mediated Transport of Pb(II) Ions through Polymer Inclusion Membrane

Joanna Konczyk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the facilitated transport of Pb(II) through polymer inclusion membrane containing different derivatives as ion carriers. It was found that the transport process is controlled by both diffusion and chemical reaction, with the highest efficiency achieved using tetrathiophosphorylated heptyl-calixresorcin[4]arene. Competitive transport experiments with other metal ions also revealed the disturbance effect of Cr(III) ions on effective re-extraction of Pb(II) ions.
