Sorption and desorption behavior of four antibiotics at concentrations simulating wastewater reuse in agricultural and forested soils

Alison M. Franklin et al.

Summary: Due to antibiotic resistance, it is important to understand the behavior of antibiotics in soil systems to assess potential risks to human and animal health. This study examined the sorption and desorption behaviors of four commonly found antibiotics in soils under typical conditions. The results showed variations in sorption capacity and mobility among different antibiotics.

Can combined compost and biochar application improve the quality of a highly weathered coastal savanna soil?

Kwame Agyei Frimpong et al.

Summary: Soil fertility decline is a major constraint to crop production in sub-Saharan Africa, but the use of biochar and compost has been shown to improve soil fertility. Research findings indicate that sole or combined application of compost and biochar, or composted biochar, can enhance soil quality parameters such as soil pH and microbial carbon, leading to improved soil carbon stabilization and reduced soil carbon loss through basal respiration.
