Benzo(a)pyrene-induced cytotoxicity, cell proliferation, DNA damage, and altered gene expression profiles in HT-29 human colon cancer cells

Jeremy N. Myers et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that exposure of colon cancer cells to benzo(a)pyrene resulted in dose-dependent decrease in cell growth, cytotoxicity, and modulation of the cell cycle, as well as elevated concentrations of BaP metabolites contributing to DNA damage and stable DNA adduct formation. Additionally, the expression of phase I biotransformation enzymes showed BaP concentration-dependent changes, while phase II enzymes remained relatively stable. This study highlights the role of BaP biotransformation in cytotoxicity, proliferation of tumor cells, and alteration of gene expression.

Chemopreventive effect of galangin against benzo(a)pyrene-induced stomach tumorigenesis through modulating aryl hydrocarbon receptor in Swiss albino mice

L. Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that galangin has a significant anti-tumor effect against BaP-induced stomach carcinogenesis in mice, mainly by inhibiting tumor incidence and volume, reducing lipid peroxidation, and restoring cellular antioxidant status to prevent tumor formation.

(-)-4-O-(4-O-β-D-glucopyranosylcaffeoyl) quinic acid exerts anti-tumour effects against uveal melanoma through PI3K/AKT pathway

Hao Kang et al.

Summary: Our study found that QA significantly inhibited the proliferation of uveal melanoma cells and induced cell cycle arrest and autophagy. Treatment with QA also significantly slowed tumor growth and decreased the expression of p-PI3K and p-AKT proteins in tumor tissues.

Effects of catechin hydrate in benzo[a]pyrene-induced lung toxicity: roles of oxidative stress, apoptosis, and DNA damage

Samah A. Khattab et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of catechin hydrate (CH) against Benzo [a] pyrene-induced lung toxicity in albino rats. Results showed that CH increased antioxidant enzyme activity and regulated apoptosis, thereby reducing the toxic effects of Benzo [a] pyrene on the lungs of rats.
