Path Generation for Flexible Flank Polishing on Freeform Surfaces With Uniform Over-Cuts

Yuan Gao et al.

Summary: In this article, a novel path generation method is proposed to solve the nonuniform overcuts problem in flexible flank polishing. By building a tool orientation model and introducing a new indicator of overcut uniformity, the proposed method achieves consistent and uniform overcuts along the polishing path. Virtual simulations and physical experiments verify and analyze the proposed method, showing its correctness, feasibility, and efficiency in improving surface quality and polishing tool's service life.

A Model-Based Trajectory Planning Method for Robotic Polishing of Complex Surfaces

Mubang Xiao et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the challenge of off-line programming of the polishing tool trajectory for complex workpieces. By developing a numerical contact mechanics model and a novel high-priority subregion searching algorithm, it successfully predicts contact pressure and material removal depths efficiently, and optimizes tool trajectory planning. Experimental results demonstrate that reasonable tool trajectories can be generated on workpieces with different shapes, achieving the desired material removal depths.

A novel 3D path following control framework for robots performing surface tasks

Yalun Wen et al.

Summary: A novel 3D path following control framework for articulated robots is proposed, optimizing the Cartesian path using direct collocation and considering the physical requirements of robot kinematics and dynamics. The control scheme involves 3D kinematic control in the robot tool frame and joint velocity control, aiming for constant speed motion along the path tangent direction.

Dual-edge robotic gear chamfering with registration error compensation

Jie Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel method for robotic gear chamfering, called dual-edge chamfering, which allows simultaneous chamfering of adjacent gear teeth edges. An efficient trajectory design strategy and motion/force control strategy are developed to overcome registration errors and facilitate dual-edge chamfering robot trajectory execution. Real-time experiments are conducted to evaluate the proposed method using two types of large cylindrical metal gears and two different robotic compliant tools.
