Cocoa plant productivity in West Africa under climate change: a modelling and experimental study

Emily Black et al.

Summary: The potential effect of climate change on regional cocoa cultivation in West Africa is a significant economic concern, with temperature projected to increase significantly and precipitation to increase slightly. The study shows that the physiological effect of higher atmospheric CO2 concentration helps mitigate the impacts of climate change on cocoa cultivation in West Africa, maintaining net primary productivity for the whole 21st Century.

Choice of Pedotransfer Functions Matters when Simulating Soil Water Balance Fluxes

Lutz Weihermuller et al.

Summary: Modeling the land surface water, energy, and carbon balance is crucial for understanding the Earth System. Variability between model outputs can be attributed to differences in input parameters, particularly soil hydraulic properties estimated from pedotransfer functions (PTFs). Harmonizing PTFs in large scale models is recommended to avoid artifacts and ensure accurate results.
