A lumped model to simulate nitrate concentration evolution in groundwater at catchment scale

Nicolas Surdyk et al.

Summary: Groundwater nitrate contamination requires measures to reduce agricultural impacts. Models, especially lumped models like BICHE, can be useful for understanding nitrate transfer trends and forecasting, showing good performance in long-term trend analysis.

Geochemical Characteristics of Alluvial Aquifer in the VaraZdin Region

Igor Karlovic et al.

Summary: The variation in the major groundwater chemistry is controlled by a combination of natural mechanisms and anthropogenic influences. The study found that the groundwater in the alluvial aquifer is mainly controlled by hydrogeological environment, but human activities also play a role. These findings have important implications for the sustainable coexistence of agricultural production and water supply.

Development of a Hydrogeological Conceptual Model of the Varazdin Alluvial Aquifer

Igor Karlovic et al.

Summary: This study describes the conceptualization of the Varazdin aquifer and the development of a numerical model of groundwater flow and nitrate transport, highlighting important elements such as aquifer geometry, recharge, and boundary conditions. The 3D aquifer model revealed the composition of the Varazdin aquifer into three layers and the spatial and temporal distribution of water balance components. The results indicate the distribution of average annual precipitation and the behavior of the aquifer system, defining boundary conditions such as recharge areas and outflow boundaries.
