Cardiac Shock Wave Therapy Improves Ventricular Function by Relieving Fibrosis Through PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathway: Evidence From a Rat Model of Post-infarction Heart Failure

Luqiao Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of cardiac shock wave therapy (CSWT) on post-AMI heart failure patients with a focus on reducing fibrosis. The results showed that CSWT can alleviate cardiac fibrosis induced by AMI through the activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

Defining a therapeutic range for regeneration of ischemic myocardium via shock waves

Leo Poelzl et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that shockwave therapy can induce regeneration of ischemic muscle in a dose-dependent manner, enhance angiogenesis, and improve limb perfusion within a therapeutic range without causing cellular damage. Provides evidence for the potential of shockwave therapy as a regenerative treatment option for ischemic cardiomyopathy.

Low Intensity Shockwave Treatment Modulates Macrophage Functions Beneficial to Healing Chronic Wounds

Jason S. Holsapple et al.

Summary: Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) plays a crucial role in promoting wound healing by enhancing angiogenesis, reducing macrophage numbers, and increasing macrophage activation. Shockwave treatment boosts the uptake of apoptotic cells by macrophages, promotes healing-associated cytokine and growth factor gene expressions, and modulates macrophage morphology through mechanotransduction pathways, contributing to wound resolution. These findings reveal shockwaves as important regulators of macrophage functions linked with wound healing, representing an underappreciated role of clinically applied shockwaves that could be utilized for other macrophage-mediated disorders.
