Tricuspid valve annuloplasty and mitral valve replacement are associated with bradyarrhythmia after mitral valve surgery

Florian E. M. Herrmann et al.

Summary: Mitral valve surgery may lead to the requirement of pacemaker implantation in a relevant subgroup of patients, mostly due to atrioventricular block. Mitral valve replacement and tricuspid ring annuloplasty are identified as significant operative risk factors, while insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus is a demographic risk factor. The role of diabetes mellitus in pacemaker requirement after mitral valve surgery remains unclear.

Clinical Course Long After Atrial Switch: A Novel Risk Score for Major Clinical Events

Odilia Woudstra et al.

Summary: Patients with transposition of the great arteries corrected by an atrial switch operation experience increased risks of major clinical events, such as heart failure and arrhythmias, during adulthood. A prediction model based on age, prior ventricular arrhythmia, age at repair, ventricular dysfunction, tricuspid regurgitation, and left ventricular dysfunction can effectively stratify patients into low, intermediate, and high risk categories for event-free survival. This risk score provides valuable information for individual risk assessment and may help guide pharmacological and interventional management decisions.

Safety and feasibility of conduction system pacing in patients with congenital heart disease

Oscar Cano et al.

Summary: Permanent CSP is safe and feasible in patients with CHD although implant technique is complex. 10 cases successfully achieved CSP with prolonged procedure and fluoroscopy times. However, systemic ventricle systolic function and NYHA class significantly improved postoperatively.

Failing systemic right ventricle in a patient with dextrocardia and complex congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries: a case report of successful transvenous cardiac resynchronization therapy

Marieke Nederend et al.

Summary: Patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) are prone to advanced atrio-ventricular block requiring chronic ventricular pacing, leading to systolic dysfunction of the morphological right ventricle (RV). Invasive haemodynamic evaluation can help assess the potential benefits of cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with complex anatomy.

Waiting list mortality and the potential of donation after circulatory death heart transplantations in the Netherlands

S. Roest et al.

Summary: There is a high waiting list mortality rate in the Netherlands for heart transplantation, while utilizing organs from DCD donors shows great potential and could potentially reduce waiting list mortality. Cardiac screening will be necessary to determine the true potential of this approach.
