Long-Term Survival of Patients With Left Ventricular Noncompaction

Vaibhav R. Vaidya et al.

Summary: Overall survival is reduced in patients with LVNC compared with the expected survival of age- and sex-matched US population. However, survival rate in those with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction and isolated apical noncompaction was comparable with that of the general population.

Left ventricular mechanics and cardiovascular outcomes in non-compaction phenotype

Shehab Anwer et al.

Summary: In LVNC patients, GLS, GCS, regional strain, and twist were impaired, while APCS, APSR, and twist showed strong association with cardiovascular events independent of LVEF and NC:C ratio. Therefore, STE-derived parameters may complement the echocardiographic assessment of LVNC patients in clinical routine.

Phenotype/Genotype Relationship in Left Ventricular Noncompaction: Ion Channel Gene Mutations Are Associated With Preserved Left Ventricular Systolic Function and Biventricular Noncompaction Phenotype/Genotype of Noncompaction

Marie Cambon-Viala et al.

Summary: The study revealed the importance of genotype-phenotype relationship in patients with LVNC, particularly in those with ion channel gene mutations. Patients with ion channel gene mutations presented higher LV ejection fraction and more frequent biventricular noncompaction compared to those without mutations, highlighting the significance of identifying causative mutations for genetic counseling and management of the disease.

Clinical Risk Prediction in Patients With Left Ventricular Myocardial Noncompaction

Guillem Casas et al.

Summary: This study confirmed the association of LVNC with an increased risk of heart failure and ventricular arrhythmias, with left ventricular ejection fraction being the variable most strongly associated with MACE. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) confers additional risk in patients without severe systolic dysfunction. A risk prediction model was developed and validated in order to guide management.
