Combined effect of thermal and hydraulic performance of different nanofluids on their cooling efficiency in microchannel heat sink

Fahad S. Alkasmoul et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the thermal and hydraulic performance of different nanofluids in a microchannel heat sink and finds that nanofluids can enhance its thermal performance. However, considering the flow rate and pumping power, the use of nanofluids deteriorates the heat dissipation efficiency of the heat sink, resulting in no beneficial aspects in terms of thermal performance and energy cost.

How natural convection affect cooling performance of PCM heat sink

Bin Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigates the quantified contribution of natural convection in phase change material (PCM) heat sinks, and discusses the effects of heat flux and physical parameters on temperature and safe working time. The results show that the cooling performance gradually shifts from heat conduction to natural convection during the temperature fluctuation stage. Natural convection can improve the heat dissipation performance, and correlations are established to predict natural convection under different heat flux conditions.

Fundamental and estimation of thermal contact resistance between polymer matrix composites: A review

Tian Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the fundamental principles of thermal contact resistance (TCR) between polymer matrix composites (PMCs) and proposes experimental measurement and numerical modeling methods for estimating TCR between PMCs. The main challenges in accurate estimation include complex interfacial thermal conductance, anisotropic thermal and mechanical responses, and uncertain contact mechanics. The paper suggests using multiscale estimation and machine learning methods for further studying TCR between PMCs.

The performance response of a heat pipe evacuated tube solar collector using MgO/MWCNT hybrid nanofluid as a working fluid

Shady M. Henein et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of using MgO/MWCNT hybrid nanofluid on the thermal performance of the evacuated tube solar collector was investigated. The results showed that increasing the weight ratios of MWCNTs nanoparticles and volume flow rate improved the energy and exergy efficiencies of the collector. Furthermore, MgO/MWCNT (50:50) hybrid nanofluid performed better than other hybrid nanofluids at all volume flow rates.

Summary: This paper proposes a new TOTS arrangement method for district heating systems based on the design concept of a fourth-generation smart pipe network system. The created analytical and numerical models have high accuracy in predicting heat loss, with a deviation within 2% compared to experimental data. The distance between heating pipes is found to be a crucial factor affecting total heat loss and heat exchange in the new multi-control heating system.

A detailed hydrothermal investigation of a helical micro double-tube heat exchanger for a wide range of helix pitch length

Nidal H. Abu-Hamdeh et al.

Summary: The study found that applying a helix angle in the helical micro double-tube heat exchanger can enhance heat transfer, with an optimal effect varying with Reynolds number. Increasing Reynolds number leads to higher overall heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and pumping power. Additionally, increasing pitch length decreases OHTC, pressure drop, and pumping power.

Performance analysis of thermosyphon heat pipe using aluminum oxide nanofluid under various angles of inclination

Arun Kurien Reji et al.

Summary: Heat pipes are devices that transfer heat using the principles of evaporation and condensation, with thermosyphon heat pipes relying on gravity to transport condensate back to the evaporator. While conventional fluids are typically used in heat pipes, nanofluids can enhance heat transfer rates due to their enriched thermal properties. Experimental results show a 41% increase in performance when using nanofluids compared to distilled water, with a peak efficiency of 88% at a 60-degree inclination angle.
