RIPK3 acts as a lipid metabolism regulator contributing to inflammation and carcinogenesis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Marta B. Afonso et al.

Summary: This study shows that RIPK3 is associated with the severity of NAFLD in patients and mice, playing a crucial role in managing liver metabolism, damage, inflammation, fibrosis, and carcinogenesis. RIPK3 deficiency can improve inflammation and fibrosis, and reduce tumor formation. Additionally, RIPK3 deficiency leads to weight gain but alters hepatic lipid profiles.

Characterization of an active LINE-1 in the naked mole-rat genome

Shunichi Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: Naked mole-rats have fewer L1-derived sequences in their genome, resulting in lower retrotransposition activity of L1 compared to other mammalian genomes. Despite lower activity, NMR-L1 can still induce cell senescence, contributing to the cancer resistance of naked mole-rats. The G-quadruplex structure of the 3' UTR of NMR-L1 modulates its retrotransposition activity.

MLKL in cancer: more than a necroptosis regulator

Sofie Martens et al.

Summary: MLKL has emerged as a key player in necroptosis, and its functions in cancer development and metastasis are still not well understood. It may affect cancer through necroptosis-dependent and -independent pathways, such as promoting inflammation and tissue injury.
